Dr. James Coffman

Dr. James Coffman has been involved in the field of international higher education as a student, professor, researcher and administrator for thirty years. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley, and his Ph.D. in International Development Education from Stanford University. He then served as Country Director in Tunisia for AMIDEAST, an American educational and training organization. From 1996 to 2000, he was Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan. From 2000 to 2002, Dr. Coffman served as the first Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences of Zayed University in Abu Dhabi – the U.A.E.’s first women’s university. He left Zayed University to return to his native California, where he was Director of International Program Development at the University of California, Davis, until 2006.

Dr. Coffman arrived in Malaysia January 1st, 2008, to assume the directorship of the Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE). He is eager to expand exchange programs between Malaysia and the U.S.A., and to see the number of Malaysian students in the U.S.A. rise to the high levels of the 1970s and 1980s.
